Women in Engineering – Thursday 23rd June

National Women in Engineering Day – 23 June 2016 – is a day dedicated to raising the profile and celebrating the achievements of women in engineering.

A collaborative event with an energy engineering theme in lieu of National Women in Engineering Day will take place at the John Innes Centre, Norwich Research Park from 11am – 3pm.

For the benefit of 200+ female-only students, the event will feature STEMNET contract holders Connect Education Business in partnership with WEN UK, OPITO UK, Institute of Engineering Technology (IET), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) plus other supporting organisations and businesses.

OPITO UK, IET and IMechE are co-sponsors. We have 3 female STEM speakers and a keynote speaker MP Chloe Smith.

23rd June 2015 – WenUK College Day – Women’s Engineering Day

WEN are support women’s Engineering day with the Great Yarmouth College, to show young females round local energy companies and discuss what a career means and looks like in the local energy industry.

17th June 2015 – EEEGR House of Commons Reception, Westminster,

In recognition of the significant progress within the energy industry in the East of England WEN are delighted to  have been invited to attend the networking reception at the House of Commons, Westminster.

The purpose of the event is to highlight the important role of the East of England in the future of secure energy supply and network with fellow industry personnel and crucial governmental decision makers.


2nd June 2015 – Powerful Women at the House of Lords

Emma Bishop and Kim Dexter have been invited to attend the House of Lords again this year in support of Powerful Women and as a collaboration to encourage gender equality in the Energy Sector.

3rd March 2015 – Sixth Form Career day

As part of National Careers week, East Norfolk Sixth form college and WEN have joined forces to organise an introduction to the energy industry for young women on 3rd March. Local energy companies including Dexters, AID Industrial, Fugro Alluvial, Gardline Geosurvey, 3Sun and Seajacks are contributing to the day. The day exposing female students to the local energy industry:

  • explaining the sector;
  • introducing variety of career opportunities and progression routes;
  • visiting local companies;
  • meeting with successful (female) professionals.


14th November 2014 –  In Your Shoes – Women in Energy Lunch

One small step for an industry, one giant leap for women. ‘In Your Shoes’ is a platform to educate individuals in what a fantastic industry energy is, offer support, share best practice and develop females in leadership and technical skills.

As detailed in the charter there are 9 areas of focus for the newly established Women in Energy Networking Group.

One of these key areas is to provide Networking opportunities for local women leaders in the Energy industry.

The first of these networking events has been set up as an initial kick-off event to allow current members to invite two contacts to meet the Women in Energy Group.

The event will be held at the Oaklands Hotel in Norwich and will be a relaxing informal Pimm’s and Lemonade on the patio, with the option to stay for dinner. Should you wish to attend, please contact a current member of WEN.
